The effect of the water status on the growth and fruit set in capsicum and eggplants grown in glasshouses

, : The effect of the water status on the growth and fruit set in capsicum and eggplants grown in glasshouses. Acta Horticulturae (51): 175-184

In studies with 6 eggplant cvs planted in October 2 groups of plants were observed (a) those with a low leaf dry matter content (300 mg/dm-2) and a low proportion of functional flowers (0-2%) and (b) those with higher leaf dry matter content (400 mg/dm-2) and a higher proportion of functional flowers (23-53%). Flower drop in eggplants was attributed to almost permanent water saturation of the leaves and low leaf dry matter content.
