The effect of tree age and time of day for collecting the flowers on the flower yield, content and composition of cassie (Acacia farnesiana) essential oils

Data are tabulated on the flower production of a 4-year-old and a 13-year-old tree from December to April. The younger tree yielded more. In the case of the younger tree only, morning collection gave a greater mean weight of flowers than evening collection. The essential oil percentage was higher in flowers from the younger tree. Flowering reached a peak in March and early April. Tree age and collection time had no effect on the qualitative and quantitative composition of the oil.
