The effect of using composted pine bark for mulching on growth, flowering and crops of gladiolus (Gladiolus X hybridus grandiflorus)

Fresh pine bark, composted pine bark, peat moss and straw were compared as mulches for gladiolus, Oscar. The soil surface was covered with a 5-cm-thick layer after the corms were planted. No difference in corm quality or yield was observed between mulched and control (bare soil) plots. In one of the 2 trial years cormlet production was higher on plots mulched with peat moss or composted bark.
