Abstract
In trials on a leached heavy loam chernozem soil in 1974-75, linuron or atrazine at 4 kg/ha pre-em. were combined or not with 2,4-D-amine 1.2 kg/ha post-em. at the 3- to 5-leaf stage of maize. The combination treatments were the most effective and gave the best weed control and highest yields. Linuron was less effective applied pre-em. in the dry season of 1975 and toxic to crops when applied at 2 kg/ha post-em. Herbicides generally showed no harmful effect on the quality of maize silage nor did residues affect a following crop of winter wheat sown in autumn 1974.
