, : The effects of concentration and periods of day of application of calcium carbide on the flower induction of Ananas comosus (L) Merr. cultivar Smooth Cayenne in Ghana. Acta Horticulturae (53): 273-278

Calcium carbide solution at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0% was applied as a drench to 8-month-old plants at each of the following times: between 1 and 4 a.m., 6 and 9 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m., or 8 and 12 p.m. The most effective times for calcium carbide application were from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. for percentage flowering noted 56 and 70 days after treatment.
