The effects of concentration and periods of day of application of calcium carbide on the flower induction of Ananas comosus (L) Merr. cultivar Smooth Cayenne in Ghana

Calcium carbide solution at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0% was applied as a drench to 8-month-old plants at each of the following times: between 1 and 4 a.m., 6 and 9 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m., or 8 and 12 p.m. The most effective times for calcium carbide application were from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 12 p.m. for percentage flowering noted 56 and 70 days after treatment.
