The energy metabolism of young Friesian calves fed on a diet of milk and concentrate

The energy metabolism of young Friesian calves fed on a diet of milk and concentrate

Proceedings of the New Zealand Society of Animal Production 37: 163-166

From 6 weeks old, 2 groups of 12 Friesian calves were given rations to give 0.75 or 0.25 kg daily gain. The metabolizable energy (ME) came equally from milk and concentrates. Complete energy balances were estimated. Estimated daily requirement of ME for maintenance was 0.41 MJ/kg0.75 and net efficiency of use of ME above maintenance was 63%.
