The genetics of hatching in the potato cyst-nematode Heterodera rostochiensis Woll

The genetics of hatching in the potato cyst-nematode Heterodera rostochiensis Woll

Proceedings of the Royal Irish Academy 77B(6): 135-141

Mass matings of H. rostochiensis, between larvae which hatched in water, gave a significantly high proportion of sterile matings. Fertile matings gave F1 with various phenotypic classes which in some instances gave statistical Mendelian ratios. The rate of hatching in water was unexpectedly low, and in all cases where hatching in water occurred, classical ratios were only obtained by pooling together larvae which hatched in water and in host root exudate into a single phenotypic class.
