The influence of sex and of gonadectomy on the susceptibility of white mice to infection by Trichinella spiralis

The influence of sex and of gonadectomy on the susceptibility of white mice to infection by Trichinella spiralis

Revista Iberica de Parasitologia 37(1/2): 99-107

Male mice were more susceptible to infection with Trichinella spiralis strain LASO-59-LH than females (the mean number of larvae developing/male mouse was 12,800 and the mean number/female mouse was 7,980). Removal of the gonads decreased the susceptibility of both male and female mice (13,548 larvae/normal and 8,215 larvae/castrated male; 6,789 larvae/normal and 694 larvae/castrated female).
