The breeding programme conducted in Romania between 1950 and 1972 is outlined. The following varieties were bred: Baneasa 9/15 (from Reine Claude d'Althan X Wilhelmine Spath); Baneasa 5/10 (from Reine Claude d'Althan X Early Rivers); Tuleu Timpuriu (from Tuleu Gras X Peche ; Baneasa 13/33 (from Tuleu Timpuriu X Early Rivers); and Marculesti 17/30 (from Tuleu Gras X Early Rivers). The fruits of Baneasa 9/15 are almost spherical and weigh 38 g.
