The role of birds in the natural foci of tick-borne arboviruses in Western Siberia

The results of comparative studies of the biocoenotic relationships of birds with ticks and viruses in the foci of Russian spring summer tick-borne encephalitis (RSSE) and Omsk haemorrhagic fever OHF, especially on cattle in western Siberia (Soviet Union), are reviewed in relation to bird migration and the discovery in India of Kyasanur Forest disease, which is aetiologically and clinically close to RSSE.
