The role of some vitamins in the course of larval ascaridosis (Ascaris suum). II. Effect of the vitamin C content in diet on the levels of vitamins C and B2 in some parenchymatous organs of infected guinea-pigs

The role of some vitamins in the course of larval ascaridosis (Ascaris suum). II. Effect of the vitamin C content in diet on the levels of vitamins C and B2 in some parenchymatous organs of infected guinea-pigs

Acta Parasitologica Polonica 24(28/34): 295-314

Changes in vitamin C levels in the livers and adrenal glands in guinea-pigs either infected or uninfected with Ascaris suum, fed a normal, a vitamin C-deficient or a vitamin C-rich diet, in the autumn (when levels tended to be higher) or winter, are described. In most cases, infection with A. suum of "deficient" animals caused an increase in vitamin C levels, and infection of "saturated" animals caused a decrease. It is suggested that the vitamin is stored in a bound form by the host.
