The selectivity of some herbicides in bulb growing

, : The selectivity of some herbicides in bulb growing. Acta Horticulturae 23: 305-311

In field trials on coarse sandy loam soil (o.m. 1-2%) at Lisse, tulip Edith Eddy roots were treated with linuron at 0.75 kg/ha, pyrazone at 1.95 kg/ha and simazine at 0.5 kg/ha. All treatments resulted in heavy damage during the flowering season, early dying down of the plants and a 20-35% reduction in bulb yield. Pyrazone and simazine also damaged hyacinths and reduced bulb yield by 50-60%. Linuron at 0.75 kg/ha reduced yields by 10-20% but lenacil at 1.22 kg/ha was safe.

Previous ecological studies of Palearctic passerine migrants in Africa have claimed to reveal some general features with respect to habitat use, foraging ecology and interspecific relationships with Afrotropical residents. In this review we discus...
