The effect of fentin hydroxide and decyltriphenylphosphonium bromochlorotriphenylstannate(1-) (decafentin) on the reproduction of Musca domestica L. was investigated. Adults of both sexes separately and mixed together were fed on diets containing the compounds for 3 days starting about 24 h after emergence. Treated females were then allowed to mate with untreated males and vice versa, and the sterilising effect was assessed from the numbers of eggs laid, the hatching of larvae and pupation. Fentin hydroxide administered at 0.00625 - 0.2% caused 37.9 - 94.1% sterility when both sexes were treated and 29.4 - 92.4% sterility when only females were treated.
