Particle size distribution in a pale grey forest soil, a dark grey forest soil, a leached chernozem and a leached chernozem-smonitza respectively was similar after ultrasonic dispersion of the soils to that occurring after treatment with acid and alkali by Kachinskii's method. Trituration of soil pastes did not disintegrate the micro-aggregates completely and thus gave a lower clay content. Ultrasonic dispersion was satisfactory for carbonate and illuvial horizons.
