Use of the Lymantria dispar pheromone for monitoring the appearance and flight period of Lymantria monacha L. and Lymantria dispar L

Use of the Lymantria dispar pheromone for monitoring the appearance and flight period of Lymantria monacha L. and Lymantria dispar L

Anzeiger fur Schadlingskunde, Pflanzen und Umweltschutz 47(4): 58-62

The synthetic sex pheromone cis-7,8-epoxy-2-methyloctadecane (disparlure) has proved useful in determining the beginning and duration of the flight periods of Lymantria monacha (L.) and L. dispar (L.) in central Europe. The flight periods of both species, as indicated by catches in traps baited with disparlure, last 6-7 weeks; in the case of L. monacha in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia), flight continues until mid-September, which is 3-4 weeks longer than has been recorded so far.
