Wood density and growth rate of Pinus elliottii and Pinus taeda clones planted on two sites in the eastern Transvaal



South African Forestry Journal (98): 48-51



Samples were taken from 11-year-old trees on sites at 1100 m and 1825 m with a mean annual precipitation of 1400 mm and 1700 mm respectively. Wood density was significantly related to clonal differences and was consistently higher on the low altitude site; there was little site/clone interaction. Wood density was unrelated to growth rate.
