Yield and its components in newly bred, high-yielding, grain-maize hybrids

After the testing of over 3000 simple interline hybrids in the 320-380 maturity range between 1968 and 1972, data recorded on the ten highest yielding of each year were analysed. The most productive hybrids maintained that status only when the water supply was adequate and sowing density was high. No clear superiority of two-eared over single-eared forms emerged.
