A dark unspotted phenotype of Anopheles (Cellia) maculatus Theobald, with notes on its inheritance (Diptera: Culicidae)

A dark unspotted phenotype of Anopheles (Cellia) maculatus Theobald, with notes on its inheritance (Diptera: Culicidae)

Mosquito Systematics, 113: 163-172

A dark unspotted phenotype of Anopheles maculatus Theo. is described that was found in adults of both sexes in a wild-type (spotted) colony of the Kuala Lumpur strain of this species. Morphological characters separating the melanistic phenotype from the wild one are presented, and other data are given showing the prevalence of the unspotted phenotype throughout 5 generations, together with data from preliminary crossing experiments between the dark and wild phenotypes.
