A note on the effect of certain plant growth regulators on the ripening and storage behaviour of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. L-49

Guava fruits were dipped in 2,4-D at 100 p.p.m., 2,4,5-T at 200 p.p.m., maleic hydrazide at 500 p.p.m. or Cycocel at 500 p.p.m. for 30 s and after drying they were held at room temperature for 4 or 8 days. Fruit ripening (as indicated by fruit colour and flesh softening) was retarded most by Cycocel, followed by maleic hydrazide. Fruit spoilage was also least with these treatments.
