In a 3 X 3 Latin square experiment 3 male calves, about 19 months old and weight 160 kg, got for periods of 30 days, with subsequent 7 days for collection of faeces, grass hay to appetite and 2 kg daily of feed with ground maize 35, groundnut oilmeal 35 and wheat bran 27% or with dried ground sugar beet replacing half or all the maize. The oven-dried beet had DM 86.4, crude protein 12.2, fibre 7.4, ether extract 7.9, ash 8.5 and N-free extract 64.0% in DM.
