A xanthine oxidase microtest for the determination of cows' milk added to goats' milk

The method is based on the high content of xanthine oxidase (XO) in cows' milk compared with goats' milk. Samples of milk are renneted and heated at 38-40 deg C; 100 mu l whey are introduced into cups (containing a dried preparation of 2 mM xanthine in 0.1 M phosphate buffer pH 7.5) on an Api Zym plate.
