A single intramuscular injection of hydroxyrogesterone capronate (50, 75 or 100 mg) was given to 199 gilts and 239 sows on the 13th, 15th or 17th day after insemination. Treatment had a positive effect on litter size, the number of live-born piglets being increased by up to two. Several groups of gilts had higher mean litter weights.
