An infected dairy herd of approximately 900 cattle was studied following s/c vaccination of one-half of the cattle with the standard dose of 59 X 109 organisms and the other half with a reduced dose of 2.95 X 109 organisms of B. abortus strain 19. Cattle considered to be infected with field strains of Brucella abortus were removed from the herd, and normal culling on the basis of milk production also took place. All the serological and bacteriological data for a 16-month period were analyzed.
