Potatoes were grown at 7 locations covering the main growing regions in Norway and with wide variations in precipitation, temperature and daylight. Increasing the nitrogen fertilizer rate from 50 to 150 kg/ha generally increased the contents of total (TAA) and free amino acids (FAA) in tuber DM; as a percentage of total N arginine, aspartic and glutamic acids increased and 12 amino acids decreased and the response of FAA was more irregular.
