The analysis is based on a dynamic linear simultaneous econometric model of the world palm oil market. It shows that US imports of palm oil are extremely sensitive to the expansion of world exports of palm oil. This sensitivity has led to US demands for the imposition of restrictions on palm oil imports to benefit US producers.
