Ancymidol spray considered for use on pot tulips



North Carolina Flower Grower' s Bulletin 23(5/6): 11-14



Tulip cvs Bing Crosby (ancymidol-sensitive) and Paul Richter (ancymidol-insensitive) were grown in 6.5 inch pots containing soil + acid peat moss or pine bark humus + sand + acid peat moss. Ancymidol was applied as a 0.5 mg/pot soil drench or a 64 p.p.m. foliar spray. Controls were sprayed with water. Soil drenches (more effective than foliar sprays) reduced flower stem length markedly but were less effective when applied to the bark medium than the soil-based medium.
