Atrazine effect on the rhizosphere microflora in maize grown in monoculture

Populations of non-sporing and spore-forming ammonifying bacteria were highest at the fully tillered stage of maize. Atrazine at 16 kg/ha strongly stimulated the proliferation of non-sporing ammonifying bacteria and 24 kg/ha showed a less stimulatory effect. Atrazine promoted actinomycetes during the early growth and flowering of maize and initially increased populations of fungi.
