Bacterial brown spot disease of bush bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Germany, incited by Pseudomonas syringae van Hall s.s. pathovar phaseoli

Bacterial brown spot disease of bush bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Germany, incited by Pseudomonas syringae van Hall s.s. pathovar phaseoli

Zeitschrift fur Pflanzenkrankheiten und Pflanzenschutz 86(2): 75-85

This is the first report of the disease from W. Germany. Symptoms include large necrotic leaf spots and twisted pods. Isolates induced typical symptoms on inoculation of beans in the glasshouse and in the field. Disease spread in the field depended upon weather conditions. Some plants recovered completely. Physiological criteria of isolates justified the designation P. syringae. To differentiate from P. phaseolicola (= P. syringae sensu lato), P. syringae s.s. is used.
