Abstract
In a Latin square trial 4 bulls each with a rumen cannula got sugar cane or banana tops alone or mixed 1:2 or 2:1 on fresh weight basis. There was no effect of diet on intake or on rate of degradation in the rumen. Rate of flow of fluid from the rumen, estimated with polyethylene glycol was higher with banana tops and cane 2:1 than with either feed alone. The main factor limiting feed intake in the trial may have been the slow rate of degradation of each feed in the rumen.
