Biology and economic importance of a cassava shoot fly, Neosilba perezi Romero and Ruppel

The life-history of Neosilba perezi (Romero & Ruppel), a pest of cassava in Florida, is described from observations in the laboratory. At 21.1 and (in brackets) 25.6 deg C, the duration of the egg, larval, pupal, adult male and adult female stages averaged 3.6 (3.0), 26.3 (24.8), 19.2 (13.0), 10.1 (16.4) and 13.5 (17.4) days, respectively. Larvae failed to pupate at 15.6 deg C.
