The 53 strains were isolated from necrotic lesions of the feet of sheep, or from necrotic lesions or abscesses of internal organs of cattle and pigs. H2S production, reduction of methylene blue and coagulation of litmus milk were constantly found; all the strains were negative for gelatine hydrolysis, Vosges Proskauer, methyl red, urea hydrolysis, reduction of nitrates and catalase tests.
