Brindley's scent-glands and the metasternal scent-glands of Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae)

Brindley's scent-glands and the metasternal scent-glands of Panstrongylus megistus (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae)

Revista Brasileira de Biologia 38(3): 665-678

ISSN/ISBN: 0034-7108

Brindley's glands in Rhodnius prolixus Stal and some other reduviids secrete isobutyric acid, which is released to the exterior when the adult is disturbed. The secretion of the metasternal glands of the bugs is also released to the exterior on disturbance; its composition is unknown.
