Cassava forage as a protein source in sugar cane diets for cattle: effect of supplementary sulphur and dried cassava root

For 24 zebu male cattle 18 months old the basal diet was chopped whole sugar cane 80 and chopped cassava plant 20% with urea, alone or with ammonium sulphate 57 g or sun-dried cassava tuber meal 500 g daily in a 2 X 2 factorial trial with 2 replicates of 3 cattle to each treatment. During 84 days the mean daily gain of liveweight was on the basal diet alone 272, with ammonium sulphate 208, with cassava meal 308 and with both supplements 307 g.
