Comparative effect of different herbicides on weed control and nutrient removal in transplanted rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Butachlor, thiobencarb and several formulations of 2,4-D (sodium salt, ethyl ester and isopropyl ester) were evaluated for the control of weeds (predominantly Echinochloa crus-galli) in transplanted rice on a clay loam soil during the monsoon season of 1973 and '74. All treatments were applied 4 days after transplanting in 3 to 4 cm standing water; the water level was then gradually raised to about 10 cm.
