Comparison of Sahiwal and different grades of Holstein-Friesian X Sahiwal crossbreds for efficiency of milk production

1st lactation records of 97 Sahiwal (S) and 684 Holstein-Friesian (HF) X S crosses (1/4, 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4 HF blood) on 5 farms during 1960-1973 were analysed. Milk yield/day of 1st calving interval (MYC) calculated by dividing 1st lactation yield by length of 1st calving interval, was highest in 5/8 HF crosses, 6.58 kg, and lowest in S purebred cows, 4.52 kg. Milk yield/day of age at 2nd calving (MYA) was highest in 1/2 HF crosses, 1.82 kg, and lowest in S cows, 1.35 kg.
