Grazing rates of copepods in 2 ranges of size were estimated in seawater from different depths in the North Sea on successive occasions during spring bloom of phytoplankton. During the inital period in which the phytoplankton population was dominated by Chaetoceros spp diatoms ingestion rates were constant in the larger copepods (Calanus finmarchicus) at suspended particulate concentrations with C more than 300 mu g/litre.
