Moths infesting stores in Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil, containing sacks of processed coffee beans were identified as Corcyra cephalonica (Stnt.). To determine the extent of the damage caused to the beans by this species, lots consisting of 30 kg coffee beans divided between several jute sacks were caged and stored for 6-8 months, adults of C. cephalonica being released into the cages weekly for 21 weeks. It was noted that the moths were preyed on by a theridiid spider that entered the cages.
