Cordon tomatoes in an unheated plastic house

Cordon tomatoes in an unheated plastic house

Gemuse 15(8): 263-264

A trial of 4 tomato cvs (Adagio, Hellfrucht Fruhstamm, Lucy and Pyros) grown as cordons on strings in an unheated plastic house under drip irrigation showed that black plastic mulch increased the total yield/m2 by 14-20%, the early yield by 17-46% and yield of quality grade A fruit by 17-24% with a density of 2.5-3.3 plant/m2. Increased plant density increased the yield/m2 of mulched plants by 17% but reduced the early yield from non-mulched plants by 24%.
