Culture of coconut and date palm tissue with a view to vegetative propagation

Tissue culture of 5 date and coconut explants had similar nutrient and hormone requirements for growth. Stem, leaf and inflorescence tissues of coconut produced callus which could not be subcultured. Protoplasts were isolated from callus of both species but no cell wall formation was observed in subsequent culture.
