Development and survival of caterpillar of cabbage butterfly Pieris brassicae Linn. on some varieties of cabbage

Development and survival of caterpillar of cabbage butterfly Pieris brassicae Linn. on some varieties of cabbage

Indian Journal of Entomology 1977; 38(2): 187-188

When larvae of Pieris brassicae (L.) were reared on leaves from 10 varieties of cabbage, the variety had no significant effect on the duration of the larval, pupal and adult stages, which lasted 30-33.4, 7-9 and 4-5 days, respectively, or on the weight or size of the full fed larvae. The rate of leaf consumption varied considerably, however, (1.823-4.373 g/larva in the course of development) as did the percentage of larvae giving rise to adults (13.33-60).
