Digestibility of protein and absorption of amino acids in different sections of the digestive tract in pigs. 1. Experimental methods with animals, protein contents and amino acid pattern of small intestinal chyme and faeces with different rations

Archiv fur Tierernahrung 29(3): 151-164

1. Female or castrated male crossbred pigs were fitted with a re-entrant ileal or ileocaecal cannula when they weighed 40 to 60 kg and after habituation to solid feed and a preliminary period, 24-h ileal chyme, protein and amino acids were estimated in faeces and feed. They had N-free feed, 1 of 2 commercial fattening mixtures, a ration with dried skimmed milk or wheat gluten and lysine or wheat, gluten and lysine.
