Direct radioimmunoassay of progesterone in milk using a radioiodinated progesterone derivative

A heterologous radioimmunoassay technique for the measurement of progesterone in whole milk is described. In a preliminary study, 50 German Black Pied cows were inseminated at oestrus and again 24 h later. Milk was sampled twice weekly thereafter until 30 days after insemination and the progesterone content was determined. Pregnancy was confirmed by rectal palpation.
