Field tests were carried out in 1975 in Delhi, India, to determine carbaryl residues in soyabean. Foliar spraying of this compound had proved effective in controlling Ophiomyia phaseoli (Tryon) (Melanagromyza phaseoli), Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius), Amrasca biguttula (Shir.) and Empoasca kerri Pruthi, major insect pests of soyabean. The time required for residues to reduce to the tolerance level of the chemical (3 p.p.m.) as laid down by WHO/FAO was 10.3 days for leaves and 11.3 days for pods.
