Distribution of bovine coronavirus infection in selected areas of Germany: detection of antibodies by microimmunodiffusion and neutralization

Distribution of bovine coronavirus infection in selected areas of Germany: detection of antibodies by microimmunodiffusion and neutralization

Deutsche Tieraerztliche Wochenschrift 87(7): 252-254

The frequency of antibodies against coronavirus (associated with viral diarrhoea in calves) was investigated by means of the microimmunodiffusion test. The antigen used was an alkali extract of bovine fetal thyroid cells infected with the bovine coronavirus strain L-9. A second antigen was prepared with the intestinal strain Ly-138 (of American origin). Virus was purified in this instance from diarrhoea fluid by isopycnic centrifugation in a sucrose gradient.
