Rice seeds were sown on 8 May, 18 June or 10 July at 5 or 20 cm intra-row spacing with normal or deep tillage. The CV of stem length, ear length, ear number, dry wt. and straw wt. under deep tillage with heavy manure were similar to those under normal tillage and standard manure.
