The Dutch concept of growing pickling cucumbers (pickles) for once-over mechanical harvesting finds its basic idea in the use of entirely female flowering cvs in combination with chlorflurenol to induce parthenocarpic fruitset at the desired moment. The cost prices for a range of average fruit weights for two machines are compared with the average purchase prices of hand-picked pickles at Dutch auctions.
