Effect of aging on hypothalamic LH-releasing and prolactin inhibiting activities and pituitary responsiveness to LHRH in the male laboratory rat

Effect of aging on hypothalamic LH-releasing and prolactin inhibiting activities and pituitary responsiveness to LHRH in the male laboratory rat

Journal of Gerontology 32(1): 13-18

Hypothalamic extracts were prepared from 16 young and 16 old male rats, aged 4 and 26 mth resp. Extracts containing 0.5 or 1.0 hypothalamic equivalents (HE) were incubated with pituitaries from young male rats; pituitaries incubated only in medium served as controls. Pituitaries from young and old rats were incubated in media containing 25 or 100 ng LHRH.
