Rumen acidosis or Na deficiency caused by diverting by fistula one or both parotids to discharge saliva away from the gut did not affect respiratory rate, heart rate or temperature of calves during 15 days, except shortly before it died after 12 days in the one calf with both parotids diverted. All got by infusion into the rumen either artificial saliva or water of the same amount as the lost saliva. All were listless and anorectic.
