Effect of espalier orientation on light status and cropping of apple trees

Effect of espalier orientation on light status and cropping of apple trees

Fruit Science Reports 5(4): 1-8

Studies were carried out on several Russian apple cvs planted at 4 X 3 m in rows running N-S and E-W. Tree crown was 2 m across at the base tapering to 1.5 m, and 3-4 m high. Photo-synthetically active radiation was 15-26% higher on E-W orientated trees, which yielded 16-35% more fruit.
