Effect of feeding protected cholesterol on ruminant milk fat secretion

Effect of feeding protected cholesterol on ruminant milk fat secretion

Lipids 13(11): 814-819

Control diets were 1.5 kg/day of a 1:1 mixture of chopped lucerne hay and crushed oats for goats and 12 kg/day of a 2:1 mixture for cows. Supplementation of control diets with 1-2 g protected cholesterol (PC)/day caused a drop in milk fat content equivalent to a 20-30% drop in milk fat secretion.
